Graffiti Artists in Barcelona Express Their Passion for Bitcoin

Barcelona-based graffiti artists and enthusiasts, known as Street Cy₿er, have been using their street art talents to spread awareness about Bitcoin across Europe. Founded in January 2023, the collective consists of over 100 individuals from various backgrounds, including artists, musicians, activists, and journalists. Their artwork, which often features the Bitcoin logo or mentions the name of the cryptocurrency, aims to highlight the failures of the traditional financial system and advocate for a fairer world.

Street Cy₿er believes that street art is a powerful tool to bypass traditional media controlled by powerful interests. They see a strong connection between street art and Bitcoin, as both movements work together to create a more just and equitable world. Their gallery currently showcases more than 70 images of their artwork, which can be found in cities such as Barcelona, London, Berlin, Madrid, Prague, Riga, and Tallinn.

One of their notable pieces titled “Buy Bitcoin Defund The State” encourages individuals to think about how Bitcoin can contribute to a freer society by reducing the role of the state in people’s lives. According to Street, Bitcoin offers a peaceful way to protest against the state and its policies, enabling individuals to opt out of the traditional financial system and escape the tyranny of the state. Additionally, Street believes that Bitcoin’s scarcity makes it difficult for governments to fund wars, as they cannot simply print more BTC to finance them. This transparency would make it challenging for state actors to hide war spending, potentially making wars less affordable and promoting peace and freedom globally.

Street Cy₿er also explores the idea of using Bitcoin for social causes. Their piece titled “Print Books Not Money” suggests that if governments used Bitcoin instead of printing money, free education worldwide could become a possibility. Due to Bitcoin’s scarcity, governments would have to think carefully about how they allocate funds, making them more accountable to their citizens and prioritizing education.

Apart from their politically motivated artwork, Street Cy₿er also appeals to cartoon lovers by featuring the Bitcoin symbol alongside characters such as Mario and Ronald McDonald. The group’s recent project, “Bitcoin: The Art of Revolution,” based in Barcelona, includes exhibitions, workshops, and classes to educate people about Bitcoin.

The use of street art to promote Bitcoin is not limited to Street Cy₿er. Bitcoin proponents worldwide have been using creative methods to raise awareness about the cryptocurrency. Examples include projecting the Bitcoin logo with the caption “Study Bitcoin” on prominent buildings like the European Central Bank in Frankfurt and Berliner Fernsehturm tower in Germany. Some advocates have taken a simpler approach, using stickers to spread the message in public spaces.

Overall, Street Cy₿er’s street art serves as a powerful medium to communicate the potential of Bitcoin and advocate for a fairer, more equitable world. Their work reflects the growing interest in using art as a means to raise awareness about cryptocurrencies and challenge traditional financial systems.
