Tencent, the Chinese tech giant, has announced the launch of Zenvideo, an AI-powered video editing tool aimed at short-form video creators. The platform integrates features such as text-to-video generation and digital narration, and Tencent hopes to use the tool to take on market leaders in the short video arena, such as Kuaishou and ByteDance’s TikTok sibling Douyin. Capable of operating within web browsers and WeChat’s mini-program, the web app version is notably more powerful than the version within the superapp. Zenvideo can also import Tencent licensed video and audio clips without the need to download an app; however, users must publish their final work on Tencent’s open content platforms, and Tencent reportedly plans to share revenue with video creators in the future. The launch of Zenvideo is part of Tencent’s growing emphasis on short videos, as demonstrated by its planned paid subscription service for the WeChat Channels short video section.
